If you’ve read the news in the last year, then chances are that you have already heard about the Islamic State, an extremist rebel group that has slaughtered thousands of people, ever since they started practicing their cruel methods in a couple of countries, including Iraq and Syria.
Until now, both the United States, but also the governments of many other countries, have started fighting the terrorist group. So far, they have had quite a lot of success, but the group is far away from being completely eradicated. Rather, it is getting more and more popular, as a larger number of people are joining the group on a daily basis. With this in mind, the war that is currently going on will not have an end as long as the group keeps spreading propaganda and does not stop recruiting new members.
While the governments are doing the hard work, there are also groups such as the Ghost Security Anonymous that have decided to take on a different approach in fighting the Islamic State. The group which is filled with people from all around the world, has become Twitter’s unofficial team of vigilantes, as they go around and try to shut down all of the Twitter accounts that are associated with the rebel group. With this in mind, whenever they spot an account that might be associated with ISIS, they begin an interesting trolling spree, thus discouraging the owners of the account to continue posting from it.
By doing this, the group is gradually lowering the influence and credibility of the terrorist Twitter accounts, hence stopping them from spreading propaganda, lowering their online presence, but also reducing the amount of people that are currently being recruited by the Islamic State. A lower number of members means that the group will no longer be able to keep fighting, thus leading to their disappearance, which is exactly what people from all around the world are currently hoping for.
